As a community, we support healthy inclusions that promote belonging, growth and contribution for every person.
It has been a very difficult year for our people in the Ebola affected West African countries of Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea. At the same time, it was an incredible opportunity for our Community (Sierra Leonean Community of British Columbia) to help and comfort those affected by the disease. We are excited to share with you our successes and stories through our short report. So much of the help we gave is made possible because of your generous support, so thank you. In the wake of the Ebola epidemic in Western African, SLCBC community members raised donations and contributions to buy and deliver food support to 10 quarantined families in Masiaka Town and nearby villages. We thank Father Phillip, Dr. Abubakar Kargbo, Ayodele Betts-Priddy, and Lois Anita Kawa for helping us accomplish this small and humble help to our people. The Ebola crisis killed thousands of people in West Africa and impacted millions. The disease not only destroys health, it steals families' lives. People in Sierra Leone are fear stricken. Even 'regular' diseases (such as malaria) for the country are posing problems because many hospitals are closed for everything but Ebola. All the schools are closed, as are many of the businesses. Many areas are quarantined as well.
All of this continues to cause large problems for the people of Sierra Leone, but also for the economy of the country. At this moment Ebola and hunger are the major causes of death. PLEASE continue to PRAY for the people and the country and DONATE funds and/or resources if you feel so moved.
WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP? This is a question we hear almost daily with regards to Ebola. Praying and donating is our best response. By praying for the people of Sierra Leone we are able to offer hope for the people, and the country. We believe that if we work in faith and work together, miracles can and WILL happen. Donations are very much appreciated. The money will go towards helping more families in Sierra Leone.
