SLCBC Wins African Community of the Year


The Sierra Leonean Community of British Columbia has won the African Community of the Year Award at the ACSCA - African Canadian Soccer & Cultural Association’s African Awards. The award was presented at their annual dinner & gala on May 23, 2015. “This honour is truly reflective of the great work of each member, the executive team, the advisory committee, and their connections within the community,” said president Elsie Kromah. “I feel so thankful to be one part of the Sierra Leonean Community team and the difference we are making in the lives of others.” The Sierra Leonean Community of BC is a non-profit, social and advocacy organization looking to strengthen relationships within the Sierra Leonean Community in B.C, engage in topical issues of interest to the members of the organization including addressing issues and needs in Sierra Leone. As such, our primary activities centers on the exchange of information and cooperation between members, promote togetherness, expose the rich culture of Sierra Leone and conduct organizational programs and activities that will advance the general interest and welfare of Sierra Leoneans in their respective communities across BC. Our key enabling undertakings include:

  • Identifying and addressing the needs of members

  • General advocacy to address topical issues of concern for members

  • Social events to foster friendship among members and other groups

  • Workshops, seminars and functions to build capacity and share ideas

  • Fund raising activities to address developmental needs in Sierra Leone
